2027 eclipse sends prices soaring: Up to €33,129 a night in El Palmar

Although there is still almost a year to go, the total solar eclipse of 2 August 2027 is already driving up prices in some of the destinations that will offer the best views.

Accommodation bookings have multiplied in provinces such as Cádiz, Málaga, Granada and Almería, and prices have risen along with them.

The eclipse will be visible from much of Spain, but only in Andalusia, Ceuta and Melilla will it be possible to see the Moon completely cover the Sun.

In Tarifa, one of the most sought-after spots, total darkness will last 4 minutes and 38 seconds. In Ceuta it will reach 4 minutes and 48 seconds, according to the National Geographic Institute. Egypt will be the place in the world where the eclipse can be seen in full for the longest period, at 6 minutes and 23 seconds.

The rush to find a good spot to watch it is already evident on accommodation platforms. In El Palmar, a villa for six people located around 600 metres from the beach will cost €33,129 for one night. Split between the six potential guests, that would be around €5,522 per person.

In Tarifa there are also prices that are hard to ignore. For two adults between 1 and 2 August, one search returns three properties at €13,260, €12,500 and €11,090 per night, respectively. And there is still almost a year to go before the eclipse.

Interest in the eclipse was already evident on 12 August, when the total solar eclipse that crossed Spain generated an economic impact of €347.6 million and attracted around 446,000 international tourists.

The United States was the main country of origin outside Europe, followed by Canada and Argentina, while there was also a notable influx of British visitors and Japanese tourists, drawn in particular by astrotourism.

With that precedent, the tourism sector is already preparing for a new surge in demand. Some hotels in Cádiz have even temporarily closed their bookings due to the volume of requests for August 2027, while interest continues to grow in astrotourism and in destinations where the spectacle can be enjoyed for longer.
