Bea (Sydney Sweeney) and Ben (Glen Powell) both went on a date that ended badly, but thankfully they never have to see each other again. Imagine their surprise when their mutual friends are getting hitched in Australia and invite them to their destination wedding. Bea and Ben loathe one another, but agree to pretend to like each other to make their exes, who are also at the wedding, jealous. The plan works all too well, as Ben and Bea start to develop real feelings for each other. But Bea can’t love someone like Ben, right?
Well, when Ben looks like Glen Powell, you can forgive him for just about anything, Bea. A very loose remake of William Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing, Anyone but You is a sparkling rom-com that benefits greatly from a strong supporting cast, beautiful Australian scenery and, of course, the two leads. When she’s not posing nude for a sports betting app, Sweeney can be a charming actress, and Powell matches her sunny blondness with a gym-built body and a toothy smile that could melt you like butter. Anyone but You is evidence that frothy entertainment is just as important as serious drama pictures like Oppenheimer, and the world needs more of both.
