EASTVALE, Calif. () — No arrests have been made after one person was killed and six others were wounded in a shooting at a house party in Eastvale on Saturday night, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
The shooting occurred around 11:15 p.m. at a home at the corner of Morning Hills Drive and Maggie Lane. Authorities said seven people were shot in the backyard of the residence, with one victim dying from their injuries.
Further details on the ages and identities of the victims were not immediately available. The six people injured by gunfire were taken to local hospitals for treatment.
Neighbor Sandy Sanders said she heard the gunfire from her home.
“It was pop, pop, pop. I think it was six shots, and paused, and then four more,” Sanders said.
According to Sanders, one of the shooting victims fled the scene and ended up in her backyard.
“One of the ones that was shot jumped my wall into my yard, and my neighbor got him at gunpoint. He’s an officer. And so they held him there. But it was complete chaos around here. It was terrible,” Sanders said.
Neighbors said deputies arrived shortly after 911 calls were made.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said no suspect information was available and no arrests have been made. Authorities have not released a motive for the shooting.
Neighbors said the party was not particularly loud before the gunfire erupted, and they did not hear any arguing. Sanders and other residents described the violence as highly unusual for the neighborhood.
“We were so shocked and scared, and we couldn’t sleep the whole night. It was terrible,” Sanders said.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to contact Central Homicide Unit Lead Investigator Newby at (951) 955-1700 or Jurupa Valley Sheriff’s Station Master Investigator Ramirez at (951) 955-2600.
