SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. () — Some residents are reporting vehicles being stolen by an unmarked tow truck in San Bernardino County.
Surveillance video shows one of the latest thefts.
Brandon Hurtado says someone took his Toyota Tacoma over the New Year holiday. It was parked on White Ash Road in San Bernardino.
The video shows a tow truck rolling away with the Toyota in the middle of the night.
Hurtado says, after sharing his story on social media, he has heard of at least a dozen similar thefts, with some of the stolen vehicles possibly being taken to Victorville.
“For my truck, I do wish I get it back, but I honestly think it’s a possibility that it’s either shipped out or it’s scratched for parts. But for the people out there, you know, I hope they keep close attention to their cars more, because, you know, what I’ve been through. I don’t want them to go through that,” Hurtado said.
Hurtado urges vehicle owners to use AirTags, along with surveillance and dash cameras, and make sure their trackers are working.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department confirms it has received reports of vehicles stolen by a tow truck, but isn’t commenting further, saying the investigations are active.
