Sydney Sweeney is ready to address speculation she’s had cosmetic surgery.
“Let’s debunk them all. I mean, I have never gotten work done,” Sweeney, 28, said in a joint interview with The Housemaid costar Amanda Seyfried for Allure. “I am so scared of needles, you have no idea.”
Seyfried argued that cosmetic procedures can be “really effective once you get older,” while Sweeney doubled-down on the fact that she’s “too scared of needles.” Sweeney then shared a message to those who compare photos of her younger self to her looks now as a way to “prove” she’s had work done.
“You cannot compare a photo of me from when I was 12 to a photo of me at 26 with professional makeup and lighting. Of course I’m going to look different,” Sweeney said. “Everybody on social media’s insane.”
Sweeney then promised Seyfried, 40, that she would “call” her if she decides to pursue cosmetic surgery.
“You gotta call me, and I’ll give you a little bit of Ativan, and you’ll be so excited. But you don’t need it yet,” Seyfried said, while Sweeney replied, “No. Also, if I did, you guys, my face would be even.”
While Seyfried appeared confused and asked whether Sweeney’s face is “uneven,” the Anyone But You star revealed that she had a childhood accident on a wakeboard that required 19 stitches — and led one of her eyelids to open “a little more than the other.”
“I still don’t see it, but there’s an art to it,” Seyfried explained. “You can’t just get it everywhere, like a lot of people do. You don’t need it.”
Sweeney has been candid about her body through the years, sharing in September 2023 that she tries to be her own role model.
“I look up to the older version of myself,” she told Women’s Health at the time. “When I was 10, I looked up to the 25-year-old version of myself, and now I look up to my 50-year-old version. I hope I make the decisions she would be proud of.”
She continued, “Whenever a new challenge presents itself and I’m not scared to push myself to try, that’s when I’m really proud of who I am. I know that my body can keep going — it’s more just that mental challenge to push myself through. I take that skill into skiing, into acting, into anything I do, because it’s always more mental than physical. Of course, you have to train, but it’s mind over matter at the end of the day.”
Two years later, Sweeney revealed that she gained over 30 pounds for her role as Christy Martin in a biopic.
“I loved it,” she told W Magazine in June. “I came onboard to play Christy, and I had about three and a half months of training. I started eating. I weight-trained in the morning for an hour, kickboxed midday for about two hours, and then weight-trained again at night for an hour.”
While weight-training, Sweeney said that she had to shop for a new wardrobe.
“I didn’t fit in any of my clothes,” she explained. “I’m usually a size 23 in jeans, and I was wearing a size 27. My boobs got bigger. And my butt got huge. It was crazy! I was like, ‘Oh, my god.’”
