St. Maarten officials warn tourists of scam charging travelers for free immigration forms

St. Maarten’s government is warning travelers about a scam that charges tourists to process an immigration form that should be free.

The fake third-party website is charging a fee to help visitors complete the island’s embarkation/disembarkation form, a form that’s required for entry.

However, there are no fees associated with the real form, the St. Maarten Tourism Bureau told Travel + Leisure. According to the outlet, one third-party website is charging $139.99 for the free entry card.

“The Government of Saint Maarten remains committed to protecting our visitors and ensuring a smooth arrival experience,” May-Ling Chun, the director of tourism, said in a statement to T+L.

“We urge all travelers to verify they are using the official website before submitting their personal information or making any payments. If you believe you have been charged by an unofficial website, you are encouraged to contact your bank or card provider immediately.”

The real registration form can be completed online through the island’s official website, entry.sx.

Visitors must provide personal information such as name, nationality, passport information, emergency contact, and other details. Families can fill out a group registration to travel together.

The entry form is required for all people traveling to St. Maarten, including anyone transferring through the island. It can be filled out online up to seven days before a trip.

While the form does not have to be filled out prior to flight departure, it’s advised to fill it in before checking in to the flight for a smoother and more efficient process upon arrival in St. Maarten.

According to the St. Maarten tourist bureau, American travelers do need to fill out the form ahead of time, but they’re not required to have a visa before going to the island.

U.S. tourists can stay on the island for up to six months with the possibility of extending their trip.

With all the personal information that’s being asked for, it’s important to make sure it’s being entered only on the official website.
