LOS ANGELES () — The 35-year-old woman who allegedly fired shots at Rihanna’s Los Angeles mansion is set to appear in court Wednesday on several charges including attempted murder.
Ivana Lisette Ortiz is accused of using a semi-automatic rifle to fire multiple rounds at the Beverly Crest property while the singer was home earlier this month. Her partner A$AP Rocky, their three children, her mother and two staff members were also in the home at the time. No one was hurt.
Ortiz is expected to enter a plea for 14 counts including attempted murder, use of a firearm, assault with a semiautomatic firearm and shooting into an inhabited dwelling with enhancements.
Charges were filed Tuesday against Ivana Lisette Ortiz, who drove from Florida to Los Angeles before shooting at Rihanna’s home.
The Los Angeles Police Department believes Ortiz drove to L.A. from Florida before the shooting, but a motive still remains unclear.
“My understanding is the person drove here from Florida. How long they’ve been in the area … I don’t have that information,” LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell said earlier this month. “They’re working on that. That would be part of the whole motive, why the person came out here. We haven’t established a motive, we do know, and are aware of, social media posts that had been made that they’re looking into further.”
Rihanna’s Beverly Glen mansion was hit by gunfire while the singer was home, according to the LAPD and sources with knowledge of the investigation.
Ortiz’ bail was initially set at more than $10 million, but was later reduced to $1.875 million.
Police said part of the reason Ortiz’s bail was set at $10 million is because there were 10 victims present during the shooting. It is unclear why the bail was reduced.
If convicted on all charges, Ortiz faces up to life in state prison.
Details about the shooting at Rihanna’s home
Multiple shots were fired at the residence, but none penetrated the inside of her home, only the exterior, sources said. Multiple rounds did hit the outside of the home, though, as well as a vehicle parked out front.
Video from the scene showed bullet holes covered with tape on the home’s front gate.
Sources said that the weapon allegedly used by Ortiz was an AR-style gun. At least two homes on the block had bullet holes.
In dispatch audio, officials are heard saying the suspect’s Tesla was followed by an LAPD helicopter into a mall parking garage, where she was pulled over and detained by patrol units.
Investigators are trying to determine whether Ortiz knew if Rihanna lived at the home. The motive of the shooting remains under investigation, but law enforcement sources told News that they are looking at all aspects of Ortiz’ life, including her social media presence, to find answers.
