In 911 audio obtained by WXYZ Channel 7, a dispatcher relayed information that Sherrone Moore “walked out with several knives” after allegedly attacking a University of Michigan football staff member.
The call was placed from the address of the staff member who had an alleged relationship with Moore, which led to his firing this week.
Kelli Moore, Sherrone’s wife, also told the dispatcher she believed her husband was “suicidal” after receiving the news he had been terminated from his job.
On Friday, December 12, Sherrone was charged with one count of third-degree felony home invasion, one count misdemeanor stalking related to a domestic relationship and one count misdemeanor breaking and entering.
Sherrone, 39, was told he had been fired immediately “with cause” from his job around noon on Wednesday, December 10, in a one-on-one meeting with University of Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel.
The school fired Sherrone after finding “credible evidence” of an “inappropriate relationship” with a football staff member.
The coach had been stalking the woman “for months,” per the call.
University of Michigan insider John U. Bacon reported Sherrone “threatened to harm her and harm himself” during a Thursday, December 11, appearance on Fox 2 Detroit’s Good Day Detroit.
After the alleged exchange, Sherrone is believed to have fled on foot before being taken into custody at the Well Church in nearby Saline, Michigan.
Sherrone was booked into the Washtenaw County Jail at 8:30 p.m., where he remains awaiting his arraignment on Friday, December 12.
No official charges have yet been made against Sherrone.
“The incident does not appear to be random in nature, and there appears to be no ongoing threat to the community,” the Pittsfield Township Police Department said in a statement Wednesday.
Pittsfield Township PD added, “Given the nature of the allegations, the need to maintain the integrity of the investigation, and its current status at this time, we are prohibited from releasing additional details. Further details regarding the incident will be released as soon as possible.”
Athletic director Manuel officially announced Sherrone’s firing in a statement at 4:43 p.m., roughly 30 minutes after authorities were dispatched to the staff member’s residence “for the purposes of investigating an alleged assault.”
“U-M head football coach Sherrone Moore has been terminated, with cause, effective immediately,” Manuel said in a statement. “Following a University investigation, credible evidence was found that Coach Moore engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. This conduct constitutes a clear violation of University policy, and U-M maintains zero tolerance for such behavior.”
Kelli and Sherrone have been married since 2015 and share three daughters: Shiloh, born in 2019, Solei, born in 2022, and Sadie, who was born earlier this year.
The couple mostly keep their relationship private, but Sherrone gushed about Kelli on social media when the couple celebrated their third wedding anniversary.
“Happy three year anniversary to my life partner and best friend,” Sherrone wrote via Instagram in July 2018. “So proud of you and all your accomplishments. I am so happy and blessed beyond measure to call you my wife as the man upstairs leads us to live through him. Love you soo much and excited about what the future holds for us!”
