A crew of sanitation workers found the bodies of two teenagers along a Mississippi road a day after they were reported missing, according to authorities.
The teens, who are both 16, were identified as Terry Burrell, Jr., and Khloe Hudson, the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office said in a Monday, March 30, news release.
They were found fatally shot on the side of the road in the area of Springdale Road in Jackson the afternoon of March 30, according to the sheriff’s office.
“They both have been shot multiple times,” Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones said at the scene in a video shared to Facebook by the Jackson Police Department.
“We don’t have a motive at this particular time, nor do we have any suspect information,” Jones said.
According to the sheriff’s office, Burrell and Hudson were reported missing about a day before their bodies were located.
“We need to know why this happened, and we need to know who is responsible for this incident,” Jones said, according to WLBT. “This does not appear to be a random act of violence.”
Authorities believe both teens were taken to the location of their killing by a suspect, the TV station reported.
Burrell and Hudson had attended Lanier Junior Senior High School in Jackson, according to the TV station.
In a statement shared with the TV station about their deaths, Jackson Public Schools said that the school district “is mourning the sudden passing of two scholars from Lanier Junior Senior High School.”
“Our hearts are with their families, friends, and the entire school community,” the statement added.
School officials are making counselors available to students as a result of the teens’ murders, according to WLBT.
Jones announced the details of the killings before his last day as chief of the Jackson Police Department on March 31. He still remains sheriff of Hinds County.
Dr. Rashell Brackney is taking over the police chief position, Jones said in a March 31 Facebook post.
While speaking with WAPT about the deaths of Burrell and Hudson, Jones said that “No information is too small to report right now.”
“This is a very serious crime,” he added. “Of course, it’s very concerning, and we want to be able to identify the person or persons who may be responsible for the death of these two young people.”
The Hinds County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone who may have information on the double homicide to call the agency at (601) 352-1521 or Crimestoppers at (601) 355-TIPS (8477).
