SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. () — After a baby and a toddler were seriously injured in a hit-and-run in San Bernardino, police announced that a 27-year-old man was arrested Friday in connection with the crash.
The crash happened just before 5:30 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Arrowhead Avenue and 27th Street, according to San Bernardino police.
Police said in a statement that two women and six children were crossing Arrowhead Avenue when a driver traveling at a high rate of speed struck the baby and a 3-year-old.
After the crash, the 3-year-old was thrown to the ground while the infant was still in a stroller as the suspect’s car dragged it more than 350 feet.
“The driver of the vehicle stopped, the stroller became dislodged, and the driver drove around the stroller before fleeing at a high rate of speed,” the statement said.
After a call for the public’s help, police said a community member provided information that corroborated detectives’ investigation.
Chester Lamont Gordon was identified as the suspect. He was arrested around 4 a.m. Friday after he was spotted backing the suspect vehicle out of his garage.
Gordon was arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run and reckless driving.
A GoFundMe campaign was set up to support the family and children who remain in critical condition.
