BELL, Calif. () — Residents in the city of Bell are pushing back against a plan to remove more than 400 mobile homes.
Dozens of people showed up at Wednesday night’s city council meeting to protest the proposal, which including getting rid of two mobile home parks.
The city said it wants to replace them with new affordable housing and senior housing along with retail space for restaurants and entertainment.
The city said a licensed appraiser will meet with residents to establish the fair market value of their home and will work with them to secure housing. However, some people are afraid of losing their homes.
“I was excited to be here, and finding out a couple months after that they’re trying to close down the [mobile home park] and that we have to move out again, I had to get myself involved someway because my family is affected,” said one resident.
The city said the relocation plan is still being finalized.
