Reiner murders: Timeline of famed director Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer’s stabbing deaths, son Nick Reiner’s arrest

BRENTWOOD, LOS ANGELES () — Famed director Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer were found stabbed to death inside their Brentwood home on Sunday and their son is the suspect in the double murder.

Nick Reiner, 32, was taken into custody on Sunday night and is being held without bail, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Here’s a timeline of the fatal stabbings and Nick Reiner’s arrest:

Saturday, Dec. 13
Rob and Nick Reiner got into an argument Saturday night at a holiday party, sources told News. At the party, Nick was seen acting strangely.

Sunday, Dec. 14, 3:38 p.m.
Firefighters responded to a medical aid call at a home in the 250 block of Chadbourne Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The deceased were initially identified only as a man and woman ages 78 and 68 years old, the fire department said.

Police launched a death investigation that later developed into a murder case, LAPD sources told News, adding that property records showed the house belongs to Reiner.

Sunday, Dec. 14, 7:30 p.m.
Senior law enforcement sources told News that the victims were stabbed to death.

Sunday, Dec. 14, 9 p.m.
The Reiner family confirms in a statement that the deceased are Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer.

Sources say the couple’s daughter was the one who found them dead inside their home.

Sunday, Dec. 14, 9:15 p.m.
Sources tell News that the LAPD was able to find Nick Reiner and take him into custody near the University of Southern California as a suspect in the double murder.

According to law enforcement sources, Nick was not at home when his parents were found dead. Investigators believe he left at some point after the stabbings.

Monday, Dec. 15, 5 a.m.
Nick was booked on the murder charges Monday at around 5:04 a.m. He remains in custody without bail, according to the LAPD. He has since been moved to Twin Towers Correctional Facility in downtown L.A.

Monday, Dec. 15, 9 a.m.
During an unrelated press conference involving the FBI, LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell mentioned Nick Reiner’s arrest and stated that he is the suspect in this double murder. He was relatively tight-lipped on the case to protect the investigation.

“We have our robbery homicide division handling the investigation. They worked throughout the night on this case and were able to take into custody Nick Reiner,” McDonnell said.

The case is set to be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office on Tuesday.
