Protesters gather in DTLA for march against deadly shooting of Renee Good by an ICE agent in Minneapolis

DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES () — Large crowds of demonstrators are protesting across Southern California on Saturday — including a march in downtown Los Angeles — after the deadly ICE shooting in Minneapolis earlier this week.

AIR7 flew over the crowd on Saturday afternoon as the group marched toward City Hall in the heart of downtown Los Angeles.

The group started its march in Pershing Square. Organizers say about 3,000 people gathered, and the march appeared to be peaceful.

The rally was driven by a few recent cases — the deadly shooting of Renee Good, a mother of three, in Minneapolis, the shooting of two protesters in Portland and the death of Keith Porter Jr., who was shot and killed by an off-duty ICE agent in Northridge on New Year’s Eve.

“It’s undeniable that the federal government and everybody in politics is enabling this attack, and people stay silent, and Trump thinks he can get away with more, so it’s important that we come out to the streets to show that we aren’t going to tolerate this,” said protester Leonardo Vilchis-Zarate.

The demonstration was being led by a coalition of civil rights groups based in Southern California. Their demands are an end to ICE enforcement in U.S. communities and an end to U.S. military intervention in Venezuela and Cuba.

By about 5 p.m., the crowd was beginning to shrink, but a group of protesters split off and remained outside the Federal Building. There were DHS agents outside the building, monitoring the situation.

Shortly before 6 p.m., Los Angeles police moved in on the small crowd that remained near the federal building, forming a

A dispersal order was issued for Alameda Street from Aliso Street to Temple Street, including Commercial Street, around 6:15 p.m. All demonstrators were being asked to leave the area.

The downtown L.A. protest was one of many across the country on Saturday. In Minneapolis overnight, about 30 people were detained, cited and released after what police called an unlawful assembly.
