The Pop-Tarts Bowl might not dictate who gets college football’s top title, but it certainly brings sports fans and pastry fans together.
Dubbed “The People’s National Championship,” the 2025 Pop-Tarts Bowl will host Georgia Tech vs. BYU on Dec. 27 in Orlando, Florida, at 3:30 p.m. EST, airing on ABC.
And this year, for the first time in Pop-Tarts bowl history, the decision of the “biggest sacrifice ever” is in the hands of the fans.
Pop-Tarts announced Wednesday that fans will be able to participate in live, in-game voting to decide which team of edible mascots will be sacrificed.
“Pop-Tarts fans are passionate about their favorite flavors, so this year, we’re giving them the power to decide which Edible Mascot team — Team Sprinkles or Team Swirls — will be sacrificed and eaten by the winning team,” Leslie Serro, vice president of marketing for Pop-Tarts, said in a statement.
“Whether fans are voting for their favorite team or recreating the epic sacrifice with the Pop-Tarts Limited-Edition Team Sprinkles vs. Team Swirls Tailgate Pack, they’ll find that this year’s game is all about delivering more unforgettable moments than ever.”
Voting opens at kickoff, and viewers both at home and inside Camping World Stadium will be able to choose either Team Sprinkles or Team Swirls to be eaten when the game’s over by texting either “SPRINKLES” or “SWIRLS” to 21523.
The winner — or loser, depending on how you look at it — will be revealed at the end of the game, when the team that wins the bowl game celebrates by sacrificing the edible mascot.
Pop-Tarts is also releasing a limited-edition Team Sprinkles vs. Team Swirls Tailgate Pack to celebrate the beloved bowl game.
The Tailgate Pack is a collector-style box with full-sized packages of all six Pop-Tart flavors of the edible mascots, and fans can enter to win through @PopTartsUS on Instagram between Dec. 18 and Dec. 21.
This year’s flavors include Protein Slammin’ Strawberry, Frosted Cherry, Frosted Cookies & Crème, Frosted Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Frosted Wild Berry and Frosted Hot Fudge Sundae.
Pop-Tarts will be bringing “crazy good” energy throughout the entire game with a Pop-Tarts Bowl Fan Fest outside the stadium and a Mascot Cam livestream for fans at home to get a behind-the-scenes peak at sideline high jinks.
