A man in Portland, Oregon, is facing hundreds of sex charges after a network of hidden cameras that he allegedly set up were discovered by authorities.
Fonte T. Gladen was arrested on the morning of Friday, January 16, after a police digital forensics investigation uncovered that he had extensive child sexual abuse material and invasive recordings that he created via hidden cameras. He obtained the footage by setting up hidden cameras in private spaces, according to a press release shared by the Portland Police Bureau.
The Portland Police Bureau Child Abuse Team and Internet Crimes Against Children Unit arrested Gladen, 26, and he was booked on a total of 385 felony charges.
The charges include 86 counts of using a child in display of sexually explicit conduct, 93 counts of first-degree invasion of personal privacy, 86 counts of first-degree encouraging child sexual abuse, 112 counts of second-degree encouraging child sexual abuse and eight counts of computer crime.
The investigation into Gladen was launched when authorities learned that digital devices associated with the suspect contained images and videos that captured children and adults. All of the videos and photos documented the unwitting victims in private spaces, such as bedrooms and bathrooms, within their own homes.
Gladen reportedly used hidden cameras inside cell phone power adapters and external batteries to capture the footage without the knowledge or consent of the victims.
Six minor children and five adults were identified in the recordings as part of the ongoing investigation. Authorities also found additional child sexual abuse material on Gladen’s personal cell phone, as well as evidence that the material was received and distributed through various online platforms.
Gladen took the recordings inside of the homes of people that he knew, according to police. Authorities do not believe there are any additional victims that have not yet been identified.
The case is currently still under investigation. Police are asking that anyone who believes they have been recorded by Gladen contact [email protected] and put “Child Abuse Team” in the subject heading. The case’s reference number is 25-323624. Additionally, those who may have information that could help with the investigation have also been asked to reach out to authorities.
Gladen is still in custody and has not been given bond as of time of publication, according to online records viewed by Us Weekly. It is not currently clear if he has entered a plea or retained legal representation.
Additionally, a mug shot has not yet been shared of Gladen.
In light of Gladen’s arrest, police also encouraged people to be aware that hidden cameras can possibly be concealed inside common household items. Authorities are encouraging people to be on alert for objects that are unfamiliar to them or are out of place within their homes, as well as electronics that are plugged in where power is not normally needed.
If a hidden camera is found or suspected to be in a home, police are encouraging people to not touch the device. Instead, they should document it if possible and move any children in the residence away from the suspected camera before they contact law enforcement.
