After cameras were not permitted to photograph Nick Reiner during his hearing, a court sketch artist provided a visual representation of him in a blue suicide prevention smock.
In his appearance on Wednesday, December 17, Nick, 32, was seated behind glass in the courtroom as his attorney, Alan Jackson, declined to enter a plea for his client for the murder of his parents, Rob and Michele Singer Reiner.
During the hearing, Nick only spoke when asked if he was waiving his right to a speedy arraignment, to which he replied, “Yes, your honor.” The arraignment has been scheduled for January 7, 2026. Nick was arrested on Monday, December 15, in connection to his parents’ deaths.
“There are very, very complex and serious issues that are associated with this case,” Jackson told reporters after the court hearing. “Those need to be thoroughly, but very carefully, dealt with and examined and looked at and analyzed.”
Us confirmed on Monday that Rob, 78, and Michele, 68, died from “apparent stab wounds,” according to the Los Angeles police. Hours earlier, they were previously seen in attendance at Conan O’Brien’s Christmas party.
A source confirmed to Us that Nick acted “creepily” at the celebration and asked people “if they were famous” before leaving.

It was also reported that Rob and Nick got into a “very loud argument” at the gathering, which other attendees overheard. Reports later claimed was seen asking Bill Hader unsettling questions. Nick, who has been outspoken about his past struggles with drug addiction, left the Brentwood neighborhood and checked into The Pierside Santa Monica hotel early Sunday.
Nick was subsequently found in an area near the University of Southern California in University Park, Los Angeles. Authorities were allegedly able to “quickly” find Nick near the campus and arrested him for murder on Sunday night, approximately six hours after his parents were found dead.
The Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan Hochman announced in a press conference on Tuesday, December 16, that Nick was charged with two counts of first degree murder. He is facing life in prison without parole or the death penalty.
Rob and Michele’s kids — son Jake and daughter Romy — broke their silence on the couple’s tragic deaths and brother Nick’s arrest.
“Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day. The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience,” read the statement released to TMZ on Wednesday. “They weren’t just our parents; they were our best friends.”
The statement continued: “We are grateful for the outpouring of condolences, kindness, and support we have received not only from family and friends but people from all walks of life. We now ask for respect and privacy, for speculation to be tempered with compassion and humanity, and for our parents to be remembered for the incredible lives they lived and the love they gave.”
