More than 1.5 million bottles of popular stain remover recalled for bacteria risk

Check your cleaning cupboard — more than a million bottles of a popular stain remover sold at Walmart and Target have been recalled.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) posted a recall notice on Jan. 22 stating that Boston-based distributor Thrasio recalled Angry Orange Enzyme Stain Removers due to risk of exposure to bacteria.

The recall involves the stain removers in Fresh Clean Scent and Orange Twist Scent, sold in 24oz, 32oz and 1 gallon sizes.

The recall affects about 1.5 million units, as well as 43,700 units sold in Canada. Angry Orange

According to Angry Orange, the bottles are orange and white and have “Angry Orange” and “Stain & Odor Remover” written on the front.

The recalled products can contain bacteria, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa, which is an “environmental organism found widely in soil and water.”

The recall noted that people with weakened immune systems, external medical devices or underlying lung conditions face a serious risk of infection that may require medical treatment if exposed to Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

“The bacteria can enter the body if inhaled, through the eyes, or through a break in the skin,” the recall notice said. “People with healthy immune systems are usually not affected by bacteria.”

The CPSC and Angry Orange said no injuries or incidents connected to the recall have been reported so far.

The recall affects about 1.5 million units, as well as 43,700 units sold in Canada. Some units were sold as a bundle with a UV light that attaches to the spray bottle.

Affected products were sold nationwide at the following retailers between March 2019 and December 2025, priced between $4 and $60:

  • AngryOrange.com
  • Amazon.com
  • Chewy.com
  • Walmart and Walmart.com
  • Target and Target.com
  • The Home Depot
  • Meijer
  • Staples
  • TJ Maxx

Customers who purchased one of the recalled products are eligible for a refund, per the CPSC notice.

“To receive a refund, consumers should take a picture of the product with “recalled” and their initials written on it in marker and email the photo to [email protected],” the notice reads. “Consumers should then dispose of the product in its container with household trash. Do not empty the product prior to disposal. Do not attempt to recycle the product bottle.”
