LOS ANGELES () — Actor Mickey Rourke says he’s not asking fans for financial help on GoFundMe to avoid eviction.
In a video posted on Instagram, the actor addresses the online fundraiser, saying it’s left him “confused” and “frustrated.”
“That’s not me,” he said. “If I needed money, I wouldn’t ask for no [expletive] charity … this thing is very embarrassing … don’t give any money, and if you gave money, get it back.”
However, Rourke’s manager, Kimberly Hines, told The Hollywood Reporter that she set up the GoFundMe for Rourke and said it’s clear that the 73-year-old actor didn’t understand the implications.
GoFundMe has paused donations for the fundraiser, which has already collected more than $100,000. Rourke reportedly owes nearly $60,000 in back rent for his Los Angeles home.
The actor launched to stardom in the 1980s, later abandoning acting to pursue professional boxing. He made a comeback in 2008 in “The Wrestler,” earning Golden Globe and Academy Award nominations.
