Kim Kardashian is under fire for gifting each of her four children their own puppy for Christmas.
“Puppies are not plushies, and it’s a damn shame that Kim missed the chance to be a spokesperson for shelter pups,” PETA founder Ingrid Newkirk told The Daily Mail in a Saturday, December 27, statement. “Ignoring the homeless animal crisis is inexcusably callous.”
Newkirk further implored Kardashian, 45, to “call PETA or a local shelter the next time” she wants to add a new canine to her brood.
“[She can] try to make some amends now by sending [her] kids to volunteer at a local shelter or paying for a local shelter adopt-a-thon,” Newark said, noting that Kardashian could also participate in “at least one spay day” to help end the growing homeless puppy crisis.
Kardashian has not addressed the backlash. Us Weekly has reached to a rep for the Skims mogul for comment.
The Kardashians star recently revealed that she gave each of her four children — she shares North, 12, Saint, 10, Chicago, 7, and Psalm, 8, with ex-husband Kanye West — pet dogs for the holiday season.
“Each kid got a puppy,” Kardashian wrote via her Instagram Stories on Thursday, December 25, sharing footage of the furry dogs.
In addition to receiving their special presents, Kardashian’s kids celebrated the holiday with their mom at her family’s annual Christmas Eve bash.
“We are not doing a big Christmas Eve party this year because we just had my mom’s huge 70th and we just wanted something more intimate,” Kim’s sister Khloé Kardashian said via her Instagram Stories during the occasion. “But, of course, we have to still be so dressed up because that is what we love to do. We are celebrating the holiday very glam and fab.”
As for Kim, she showed up to the gathering in a vintage, silver Thierry Mugler gown from 1968. Her kids, meanwhile, all opted for various all-black outfits.
Kim has previously given her children faithful pets, starting with a Pomeranian puppy named Sushi in 2017. The All’s Fair actress, however, thought Sushi barked too much and wanted to switch the dog out for niece Penelope’s pup Honey.
“Yours is so much more calm,” Kim told sister Kourtney Kardashian in a December 2017 episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians. “I swear [Honey] likes me better now, she’s adjusted. Look how calm she is, you’re not getting her back.”
Kourtney, 46, eventually was able to return Honey to her daughter.
“I mean, whatever, I guess she can have her dog back,” Kim quipped in a confessional afterward. “I will just have to deal with Sushi’s barking forever.”
In addition to Sushi, Kim has another Pomeranian named Sake, both of whom North likes to spoil.
“New Year’s dog plates,” North wrote via TikTok in January 2023, sharing plates with lettuce, pear, chicken, peanut butter, carrots and salmon for the pups to eat.
North runs her social media account under Kim’s supervision.
“I am doing my best to protect our daughter while also allowing her to express her creativity in the medium that she wishes with adult supervision,” Kim wrote in a 2022 statement. “It brings her happiness.”
