Jessie Buckley Wins Critics Choice Award For HAMNET; Full List of Winners

Jessie Buckley won the Critics Choice Award for Best Actress for her performance in the film adaptation of Hamnet. The film received 11 nominations and took home just one. Wicked: For Good, which received 7 nominations, did not win any.

Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet, starring Paul Mescal, Olivier Award-winner Jessie Buckley, Emily Watson, and Joe Alwyn, tells of the love story between William (Mescal) and Agnes (Buckley) Shakespeare during the 16th century, along with their beloved son Hamnet. But before too long, tragedy strikes the family, resulting in heartbreak that serves as inspiration for his play Hamlet.

Hamnet is based on Maggie O’Farrell’s 2020 New York Times bestselling novel, which has also been adapted for the stage by Lolita Chakrabarti, and was recently played in the West End in a production directed by Erica Whyman.

Among the other notable Critics Choice winners were One Battle After Another, which was named Best Picture, and Paul Thomas Anderson received the award for Best Director.

Sinners received four awards, including Best Casting and Ensemble, Miles Caton for Best Young Actor or Actress, Ryan Coogler for Best Original Screenplay, and Ludwig Göransson for Best Score.

In the acting categories, Timothée Chalamet won Best Actor for Marty Supreme, Jacob Elordi won Best Supporting Actor for Frankenstein, and Amy Madigan won Best Supporting Actress for Weapons.
