Beef it like Beckham.
In the aftermath of Brooklyn Beckham’s revelation that he has no intention of reconciling with his famous parents, the human grist mill that is the internet is grinding out speculation about the relationship between Brooklyn’s wife, Nicola Peltz, and his mother, Victoria Beckham.
Pop culture, prevailing folk knowledge and real-deal research suggest that the dynamic between boy moms and their daughters-in-law is rife with conflict.
Indeed, a 2022 study found that women reported more conflict with their mothers-in-law (44%) than with their own mothers (39%).
“Both the mother and the wife are struggling to achieve the same position in the family, the primary woman. Each tries to establish or protect their status. Each feels threatened by the other,” Dr. Terri Apter, a psychologist from Cambridge University, previously told The Post.
In the case of Peltz and Beckham, however, this power play is amplified by their astrology.
In this corner, the former Posh Spice, born unto us on April 17, 1974, has an instigatory Aries sun and a weirder than a box of hair Aquarius moon.
Her daughter-in-law, Peltz, born on January 9, 1995, has an ‘I did not come to play’ Capricorn sun and a leisure-loving, ‘disturbing my peace is an act of war’ Taurus moon.
The sun is the primary source of our personality, and Beckham’s Aries sun squares Peltz’s sun in Capricorn.
A square aspect occurs when two planets stand a cool 90 degrees away from each other and share the same modality or quality (cardinal, fixed, or mutable).
This creates a tug-of-war between the themes and energies of each. In kind and in not-so-kind, squares naturally foster conflicts, struggle, tension, and drama
“Victoria and Nicola represent personalities that are naturally at odds. With this kind of kinetic connection, these two were destined to be spirited friends OR bitter frenemies. Together, they have zero chill,” Rachel Ruth Tate, certified astrologer at Casinos Analyzer, told The Post.
To boot, both Aries and Capricorn are cardinal signs symbolized by horned creatures, and folks, it shows.
Cardinal energy is initiatory; it wants to start and lives to stir. Both Aries and Capricorn feel entitled to lead and would rather eat glass than follow.
However, while Beckham’s Aries sun is impulsive, obvious, and reactionary, Peltz’s Cap sun is posh and punishing; Aries comes begging for a fight, and Capricorn wins by refusing to engage.
Aries is an accelerant, ever on the lookout for fuel for the pyre of their rage, and Capricorn would rather conserve their energy for endeavors with a clear ROI.
For evidence, see Peltz avoiding eye contact with her mother-in-law at every possible turn. This strategy reflects Nicola’s double-earth sign status, using the strength of her body language to effectively box a b–ch out of the conversation and lay claim to her domain.
“Victoria will always be the more pointed and assertive of the duo, while Nicola’s natural poise and groundedness provide a less-than-satisfying response to any outbursts or drama manufactured by her MIL,” said Tate.
Astrologer a.s.t.r.a.l.print notes that the cluster of Capricorn placements in Peltz’s birth chart falls in Beckham’s seventh house of partners and public enemies and open adversaries.
“This isn’t private tension; it’s front-page drama written in the stars,” they said.
Further, Peltz’s Saturn, planet of restriction and karmic debts, is in Pisces, and it’s actively pressing down on Beckham’s midheaven, which represents public persona, career ambitions, reputation, and long-term legacy.
“Victoria feels her star power being dimmed by the new girl in town. It’s giving power struggles, trust issues, and karmic debt,” said a.s.t.r.a.l.print.
Adding another layer of stardust to this dumpster fire, Peltz and Beckham have fixed moon signs that ALSO square each other. The moon represents our emotional interior, nourishment, and karmic ties.
According to astrologer Mercurial Sarah, “Moon square moon is ‘I understand you, and that’s why I don’t like you’ energy.”
This tracks, as both women are formidable, with neither willing to bend the knee or extend the olive branch. Yet, any two-bit therapist will tell you, what we despise in others is what we fear about ourselves, suggesting they each operate like a cracked, fearful mirror for the other.
But wait, there’s more.
The fashion designer’s Venus, planet of love, attraction and Mars, planet of will and war, Jupiter, planet of expansion and luck and Saturn, planet of restriction and punishment, also square Peltz’s, indicating there was always going to be friction between these brunettes and breezy brunch dates were never on the table.
However, in astrology and in life, as above, so below, what challenges us changes us and the energy here speaks as much to conflict as the possibility to transform it into closeness.
