Glamorous tourist almost killed after giant wave smashes her into rocks during photoshoot

She nearly hit rockbottom.

A Chinese tourist narrowly escaped death after getting smashed onto rocks by a giant wave while sightseeing in Egypt.

The vacationer had reportedly been visiting the Matrouh Eye, a scenic area in Mersa Matruh that’s popular among tourists, who flock there to view the striking rock formations and dramatic surf, NewsX reported.

Unfortunately, the tide can crash unexpectedly against the cliffs, posing risks for tourists standing too close to the surf zone — as was the case with the aforementioned woman.

In the dramatic clip, the woman can be seen posing in a gap in a sea cliff while wearing an orange dress.

The woman (pictured in the surf). called the incident “very frightening.” NX

All of a sudden, the rising surf shoots through the hole like a firehose and knocks the tourist off her perch, before sweeping her out to sea.

Thankfully, the tourist managed to survive the incident — which she described as “very frightening” — but did sustain multiple abrasions across her body.

She claimed she managed to get back to shore by holding onto a safety rope.

The sightseer was fortunate that the rope was there — online users claimed that the lifeline was only installed recently.

The visitor said she was lucky the outcome wasn’t more dire and pledged to be more cautious when traveling in the future.

This comes amid a spate of injuries and deaths involving tourists posing at beautiful and deadly landmarks.

Over the summer, a mom of two died in front of her son after slipping off an almost 300-foot-high platform while trying to take a selfie to celebrate completing a dangerous bungee jump.

In fact, selfie-related injuries and deaths at tourist hotspots have become such a massive risk that researchers claim they should be labeled a “public health problem,” per a 2023 study.
