Gavin Newsom slams world leaders at Davos for ‘rolling over’ to Trump: ‘Stop being complicit’

DAVOS, Switzerland () — World leaders are gathering at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland where the hot topic this year is the future of Greenland.

President Donald Trump was scheduled to leave Tuesday to join the meetings, but Gov. Gavin Newsom is already there talking with European leaders.

Newsom slammed European leaders for not being tougher on Trump, specifically addressing the president’s push for Greenland.

“Stop being complicit. It’s time to stand tall and firm, have a backbone,” Newsom told reporters. “I’ve seen this in the United States, this supine Congress, playing both sides – saying one thing in a text or a tweet and another publicly. It’s time to have principle.”

Newsom also made reference to Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, who regifted her Nobel Peace Prize to Trump last week.

“I can’t take this complicity. People rolling over. I should’ve brought a bunch of knee pads for all the world leaders,” Newsom said. “I mean handing out crowns. I mean this is pathetic. Nobel prizes that are being given away.”

He added: “I mean it’s just pathetic, and I hope people understand how pathetic they look on the world stage. I mean, at least from an American perspective, it’s embarrassing.”

Newsom went on to call Trump a T-Rex.

“Diplomacy with Donald Trump? He’s a T-Rex. You mate with him or he devours you. One or the other … Wake up! Where the hell has everybody been? Stop with this (expletive) diplomacy of sort of niceties and somehow we’re all going to figure it out, saying one thing privately and another publicly. Have some spine, some goddamn (expletive).”

Trump continues to insist the U.S. needs Greenland for national security, even describing it as “imperative.”

Trump is warning eight NATO allies to get out of his way of acquiring it, or face 10% tariffs. Those would go into effect starting Feb. 1 and increase to 25% in June.
