Delaware volunteers send thousands of ‘Stockings for Soldiers’ this holiday season

Wilmington, DE — Stockings for Soldiers is the project of Judy Travis, inspired by her son’s service in the military.

“My son was deployed in 2003 to 2004. So I decided I would start sending him boxes. And all of a sudden the project has grown to where now we send between eight and 10,000 gift bags to our troops who are deployed and we put them in a Christmas stocking,” said Travis.

They estimate they have sent over 160,000 since they started the project 22 years ago.

“Gives them a little good cheer and it makes us so happy that we can do something. And I’m delighted because this was my dream to make sure that our military knew they were not forgotten,” said Travis.
