It was first reported around 4:20 p.m. on Saturday. Captain Brian Knight with Los Angeles County Fire told News that natural gas was emitting from a main gas line in Castaic, just east of the southbound lanes of the 5 Freeway near the intersection of Ridge Route Road and Pine Crest Place.
Knight said there are no reports of any explosions from the leak, and there are no reported injuries.
California Highway Patrol shut down all northbound and southbound lanes of the 5 Freeway at Lake Hughes Road. Northbound traffic was being diverted to SR-126, and southbound traffic was being diverted to SR-138.
