New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs played his first game since news broke of the assault and strangulation allegations against him, and his girlfriend, rapper Cardi B, appears to have his back.
Diggs, 32, logged 43 receiving yards in the Patriots’ 38-10 win over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, January 4, putting him at more than 1,000 on the season to secure a $500,000 bonus. Cardi, 33, shared a screenshot to her Instagram Story of a post via X celebrating the milestone, captioning it, “Covered ALWAYS…Amen!”
“Stefon Diggs is officially the first Patriots WR to crack 1,000 receiving yards since Julian Edelman in 2019,” the original X post read. “Also the 7th 1K season of Diggs’ career.”
New England’s win over the Dolphins was the team’s first game since news broke on December 30 that Diggs had been charged with felony strangulation or suffocation and misdemeanor assault and battery during an alleged dispute with his live-in private chef over her pay.
“Stefon Diggs categorically denies these allegations,” Diggs’ attorney David Meier said in a statement to Us Weekly at the time. “They are unsubstantiated, uncorroborated, and were never investigated — because they did not occur. The timing and motivation for making the allegations is crystal clear: they are the direct result of an employee-employer financial dispute that was not resolved to the employee’s satisfaction. Stefon looks forward to establishing the truth in a court of law.”
The police report, obtained by Boston 25 News, details Diggs’ alleged actions, claiming that he “smacked” the unnamed woman in the face, then “tried to choke her using the crook of his elbow around her neck. She said that he was behind her with his arm wrapped around her. She said that she did feel like she had trouble breathing and that she felt like she could have blacked out.”
The report also seems to acknowledge Cardi, referring to Diggs’ “girlfriend,” who was not named. The woman claims she “received a voice mail and text messages from a female that she believed to be Diggs’ girlfriend.”
“The messages stated something to the effect of ‘you don’t need to do all this. It’s not that big of a deal,’” the report claimed.
Us Weekly has reached out to Cardi’s lawyer for comment.
Diggs and Cardi have been linked since late 2024 and welcomed their first baby, a son, in November 2025.
Diggs himself broke his silence on the accusations on Friday, January 2, telling reporters that it is “an emotional time” and apologizing for not meeting with the media on Wednesday, as he typically does during the season.
“Taken aback by some things that’s been going on,” he said. “But I want to be here to say sorry I wasn’t available for those couple days. It’s a different kind of time.”
He continued, “It’s definitely an open case, so I can’t even say anything about it. I will be open to any football questions, anything you want to know. I don’t want to be rude or disruptive in any way. If anybody asks me a question pertaining to [the allegations], I’m obviously just going to give you a look. Y’all kind of know me at this point.”
