Hard partying is out. “Dilly-dallying” is in.
“Brat summer” was the prevailing trend of 2024 — inspired by the bass-pumping songs from CharlI XCX’s hit party anthem album, “Brat.”
Defined by a reckless love of all-night partying, people took to social media saying their “brat summer” consisted of sleeping in last night’s makeup, stumbling through the front door at 2 a.m. after a night of clubbing or getting spontaneous tattoos.
But this year, it appears the warmer weather will bring a calmer temperament.
On TikTok, content creators are embracing a “dilly-dally spring” doing nothing.
One user took to the platform to encourage everyone to dilly-dally in a video that has amassed 967,700 views.
“You’re probably sitting at home like, oh I’m so bored, I’m so miserable,” content creator Dasia Smith, known as @sweirdest on TikTok, said. “Girl. Go outside and dilly-dally.”
“For me, dilly-dallying means getting outside and just enjoying nothingness,” Smith told Bustle. “It’s a freeing feeling being able to put a stop to everything and just make time to do nothing.”
The video quickly went viral, inspiring others on TikTok to share their own dilly-dallies by either stitching her original video or using her sound over their own video.
Videos of people dilly-dallying often include low-key activities such as casual walks and strolls, laying out in the sun or doing crafts.
One person commented on Smith’s video, “[For real] go get some food, explore the town, window shop, and come home.”
“Parks, view points, coffee shops, thrift stores, donate some stuff, window shop for inspiration, park far away from destination and walk to it,” another advised.
“Thrift stores, parks, walks in nature, dilly-dallying in the garden, baking with the windows open… so many options!” someone suggested.

“Remember when our moms used to just roam around plazas and we wanted to leave so bad,” another reminisced. “I completely understand now.”
One TikTok user showed her dilly-dally day of walking around Charleston and perusing through flowers, jewelry and records. Another took a blanket outside and played with her dog in the grass, while someone else used her outdoor time to paint with friends.
By definition, to dilly-dally means “to waste time by loitering or delaying.”
The idea is that you’ll feel happier and better if you go outside and walk around in the sun — and it’s a good way to reset your mind.
