The great holiday return grace period has begun.
Holiday shoppers are in luck as, this week, the extended holiday return window has started. This means major retailers like Amazon, Target, Walmart and more will give customers more time to return gifts — beyond the typical 30 days.
Many of the extended return windows started on Nov. 1 — with other big retailers beginning back in October.
The Post put together a list of the popular retailers offering longer refund periods — just in case you need to rid yourself of that ugly sweater your Aunt Suzy bought for you.
Walmart
Walmart shoppers who bought gifts between Oct. 1 all the way to Dec. 31, 2026 have until Jan. 31, 2027 to return most items. Those unwanted gifts include items purchased in-store or online.
But check the fine print — the retail giant said the extended return window doesn’t cover online purchases made from Walmart Marketplace sellers. Items sold and shipped by a Marketplace seller must be returned within 30 days.
The Arkansas-based company said some items — like appliances, certain tech products and fine jewelry — may not be eligible for the longer return window.
Target
Bullseye shoppers have a purchase window from Nov. 1 through Dec. 24 on most items with a deadline of Jan. 24, 2027. However, Apple products have an earlier refund date of Jan. 8, 2027.
Some items have an even larger refund life as Target-owned brands can be returned for up to a year. This includes its popular brands like Cat and Jack, Wondershop and more.

Best Buy
The popular electronics retailer will also give shoppers a bunch of extra time to return any unwanted gifts. Customers who made purchases between Oct. 30 through Dec. 31 will have until Jan. 15, 2027 to score refunds.
However, Best Buy Plus and Total members will have even longer — until Jan. 31, 2027 — to get any cash back on returns.
Make sure to check the website before heading to stores as not all items will be eligible for refunds. Best Buy will not take back items purchased with a third-party contract — like cell phones, tablets, mobile hotspots, AppleCare+ plans and more.
Amazon
The e-commerce behemoth has dropped its 2026 holiday season return dates for most items purchased between Nov. 1 and Dec. 31, 2026. Eligible items can be returned through Jan. 31, 2027.
The online retailer said Apple-branded products have a smaller window as products bought between Nov. 1 and Dec. 31, 2026 can only be returned through Jan. 15, 2027.
Returns are fairly simple, as the company has a few free return drop-off locations including Kohl’s and Whole Foods stores.
Macy’s
The once-massive retailer is also extending its “return acceptance timeframe” as it says online. This year, most merchandise purchased from Oct. 5, to Dec. 31, 2026 at Macy’s or macys.com will be accepted until Jan. 31, 2027.
Just note, shoppers will have to cough up shipping and delivery fees, as those are non-refundable. Plus, items bought in a store must be returned to a location while online purchases can be returned by mail or to a store.
Items sold by Dyson and Mac Duggal are excluded from the extended holiday return window and remain eligible to return up to 30 days of purchase.

T.J. Maxx
Maxxinistas have until Jan. 25, 2027 to return any items purchased in stores or online from Oct. 4 through Dec. 24, 2026. The discount retailer said its normal return policy will apply to all purchases made starting on December 26.
And don’t even think about returning gift returns for cash back, T.J. Maxx said you must have a receipt and you will be getting store credit back.
Marshalls
The T.J. Maxx sister store has a nearly identical extended holiday return policy stating any purchase made between Oct. 4 through Dec. 24, 2026 may be returned through Jan. 25, 2027.
Similarly, any gift returns with a receipt will receive a store credit.
However, items bought from Marshalls must be returned at a Marshalls location. Despite its parent company owning T.J. Maxx, HomeGoods, Sierra and HomeSense, shoppers cannot return products to any of its sister brands.

JCPenney
The 124-year-old retailer is also offering shoppers peace of mind as holiday purchases can be returned through Jan. 31, 2027. Items bought in store or online on or after Oct. 1 are eligible for a return or exchange.
Shoppers must have the original or gift receipt as refunds will be issued on the original form of payment or JCPenney Gift Card. If you have a return but forgot the pesky receipt may be eligible for a JCPenney Merchandise Return Voucher — at the item’s lowest selling price in the last 45 days if you have your ID.
Nordstrom Rack
Eligible Rack purchases made between Oct. 5 and Dec. 24, 2026 can be returned by Jan.18, 2027 or 40 days after purchase — whichever is later. For online purchases, items can be returned by mail or to a Nordstrom Rack or Nordstrom store.
For store purchases, eligible items can be returned to a Nordstrom Rack or Nordstrom store. Since the company is known for its great customer service, if you miss the return deadline, it may still let it slide.
The Krazy Koupon Lady — a site known for deals, tips and tricks — said it may give you 50% of the original sale.
Old Navy
The popular retailer gives shoppers a purchase window from Oct. 15 through Dec. 24 and a deadline of Jan. 15, 2026.
Just like Marshalls, shoppers must make returns at an Old Navy as sister stores Gap or Banana Republic will not accept clothes from Old Navy.
