Kyle Cooke and his estranged wife, Amanda Batula, are navigating a complex post-breakup dynamic nearly a year after splitting.
“Kyle and Amanda were doing well as far as a friendship, but have been going through a rough patch,” a source exclusively tells Us. “They have taken a few steps back and their communication hasn’t been great.”
The former Summer House costars stunned Bravo fans in January when they announced their separation after four years of marriage.
“After much reflection, we have mutually and amicably decided to part ways as a couple,” Kyle, 44, and Amanda, 35, revealed in a joint statement at the time. “We share this with a heavy heart and kindly ask for your grace and support while we focus on our personal growth and healing.”

By March, Amanda confirmed that she’d moved on to a new relationship with Summer House costar and former BFF Ciara Miller‘s ex, West Wilson. While Amanda and West asked for “understanding and respect” at the time, alleged discrepancies about the timeline of their newfound relationship bubbled over at a heated Summer House season 10 reunion where they were grilled by most of the cast, including Ciara, 30, and Kyle.
“[Kyle and Amanda’s dynamic] has been tense and is heightened when West gets brought up,” an insider shares with Us. “They both hope the divorce will be finalized soon and both want that.”
Amanda is navigating multiple major life changes, having hinted earlier this week that she will not return for the second season of Summer House spinoff In the City. (Amanda and West did not take part in filming of Summer House season 11 earlier this year.)
“The In the City cast refused to film with West, so Amanda decided not to come back for next season,” another source told Us, noting that she was technically “asked back” for season 2 before dropping out.
Amanda is reportedly ready for a break from the harsh spotlight of reality TV, where personal hardships can become fodder for story lines.
“Amanda truly wanted a break, and wanted a break from the world having insight into her life and dissecting her relationship,” the source said. “West has been an emotional crutch for her and she was not going to film without him.”
Earlier this week, Kyle seemingly reacted to Amanda’s In the City departure by accusing West of ruining his estranged wife’s career. He later deleted the potentially inflammatory accusation and shared more about his current headspace.
“There’s already enough negativity online, and the last thing I want to do is add to it. So I want to be clear, and then I’m leaving this alone,” Kyle wrote on Thursday, October 29. “Despite our differences, I will always care about Amanda, and when it comes to people I care about, I fight hard. Sometimes too hard. It’s been an emotional and frustrating situation, and I have let those feelings get the better of me at times. But that doesn’t mean my concerns aren’t valid.”
He added, “Ultimately, I wanted us both to have the opportunity to share our perspectives on the show. But at the end of the day, Amanda has her own life and makes her own decisions, just as I make mine. I’ll leave it there. Thanks everyone ❤️.”
