Tyler Cameron addressed his divisive decision to walk off live TV after receiving low scores on Dancing With the Stars — shortly before he was officially eliminated.
“You saw me upset up there. I was disappointed in myself because I felt like I let her down,” Cameron, 33, told E! News on Tuesday, October 27, after he was voted off alongside pro partner Sharna Burgess.
Cameron praised Burgess, 41, for being “so good” to him, adding, “She has given me so much, and I have a special woman in my life now.” He elaborated on his surprising onscreen reaction while speaking to Entertainment Tonight, saying, “We were a cockroach that you couldn’t kill, but we’ve finally been squashed.”
After performing a Viennese waltz to “Love Song for a Vampire” by Annie Lennox on Horror Movie Night, Cameron and Burgess got a 26 out of 40. He was then seen walking out of frame despite the cameras still being on them as they reacted to their scores.
“The disappointment I felt [was because] I let Sharna down. I let myself down. I wasn’t as clean as I wanted it to be,” Cameron told Good Morning America. “It happens. But now that I’m 30 minutes removed from it all, I am just filled with gratitude. This is one of the greatest experiences I’ve ever had.”

Cameron also uploaded an Instagram video with Jackson Olson, who was also eliminated, in which the former Bachelorette contestant joked they were “literally going out as a clown and a jackass,” referencing their costumes.
Cameron’s elimination comes one week after he and fiancée Tate Madden performed a contemporary dance on Dedication Night. Cameron read a letter in a voice-over to his late mother, Andrea, in which he revealed that he and Madden are expecting their first baby.
“You would’ve loved the woman I’m gonna marry,” Cameron said. “All the things that made you special, I found in her. She’s gonna be the most incredible mama, just like you. And we’re gonna have a baby. I can’t believe I’m gonna be a dad. Wish you were here, hope that I make you proud. I love you and I miss you every day.”
Madden showed off her baby bump as the pair danced alongside Burgess.
“We get to go start the next best part of our lives now, and I think everything coming in front of us is going to be the greatest things we ever get to do,” Cameron told Us earlier this month. “The life I’ve gotten to live up to this point has been great, but nothing has been more exciting for what the future has for us. So it’s just going to be better and better.”
Dancing With the Stars airs on ABC and Disney+ Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET.
