Trina Braxton’s husband, Von Scales, has died. He was 58.
“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Von Scales, beloved husband of Trina Braxton,” a spokesperson for Braxton’s family said in a statement shared with TMZ on Thursday, October 1. “The family appreciates your thoughts and prayers but is asking for privacy at this time as they navigate this unfortunate event.”
A cause of death has not been publicly revealed. Us reached out to Braxton, 51, for further comment.
Braxton and Scales had been married since 2019. The singer’s ex-husband, Gabriel Solis, died one year prior.
“On December 20, 2018, a chapter permanently closed for my sons and I. For over 16 years, Gabe Solis was an essential part of our lives,” Braxton wrote via Instagram, referring to her former spouse and their two children. “Like all families, there are good and bad moments that are endured, but those moments, good or bad, still made us who we are in the present.”
She continued at the time, “I do humbly ask for your prayers for our families, but my greatest request is that when you are posting comments, remember Gabe’s passing is a loss for our family. He was a father to my boys, a son, brother and friend to many and I would appreciate privacy and respect as we grieve his unexpected departure.”
Braxton concluded her emotional tribute with a note to Solis directly, writing, “I miss you, my dear friend.”
As Braxton found love with Scales, he joined her on her family’s reality show The Braxtons.
“We met through mutual friends. There was a gentleman that he worked with who was also my neighbor,” she recalled to Essence in 2019. “He was from St. Louis, so when Von was visiting and doing some work, my friend was like, ‘Hey, I know this guy and he just got out of a relationship. You two would really hit it off.’ And we did!”
She added, “He lived in St. Louis and we talked on the phone all the time. Whenever we didn’t, I kind of missed him, you know what I mean? He’s just such a great conversationalist and I just enjoyed talking to him, and enjoyed his company when he came to visit.”
In the years since The Braxtons wrapped in 2025, Braxton and Scales documented their wellness journey via social media.
“My health is back on track,” he said in a December 2025 social media video. “That event occurred in February at Towanda [Braxton’s] wedding, there was something wrong, but I didn’t feel it. I felt wonderful that day … but since then, I’ve felt good.”
