How Pelvic Floor Exercises With Kegels Can Help Men Recover Bladder Control After Prostate Surgery

For men facing a prostatectomy or working through recovery from prostate surgery or radiation, pelvic floor training is increasingly showing up as part of the roadmap back to bladder control and sexual function. App-connected trainers like the kGoal Boost for Men are positioning themselves at the intersection of prostate cancer recovery, sexual health and aging. What started as a clinical afterthought is turning into a consumer segment with a clear commercial arc, and the evidence base for post-surgery continence recovery is what’s anchoring it.

What’s Happening

The kGoal Boost for Men is a sit-on-top biofeedback device paired with a mobile app, currently listed at $179. Its manufacturer markets it as “purpose-built to help you perform both Kegel and Down Training exercises consistently,” aimed at men strengthening bladder-control muscles, recovering from prostate surgery or working on erectile function and stamina.

The device is non-insertable and used fully clothed, with an app that gamifies contractions and tracks strength, endurance and control over time. Customer reviews on the product page include men using it after radical prostatectomy for prostate cancer, along with clinicians describing it as a biofeedback tool for patients with either weak or high-tone pelvic musculature.

If you’ve spent five minutes on skincare TikTok, you already know salicylic acid is basically the main character of the acne aisle. It’s in cleansers, toners, serums and spot treatments at pretty much every drugstore, which is exactly why so many people mess it up. Used the right way, it clears clogged pores and smooths […]

That clinical framing lines up with mainstream medical guidance. Cleveland Clinic recommends men perform 10 Kegels three times per day, for 30 total, and notes the exercises “can be beneficial for people who are preparing for prostate cancer surgery (prostatectomy) or after prostate-altering procedures to improve incontinence.” UCLA Health advises a target of “20 Kegel exercise three to four times each day” for men recovering from prostate treatment.

Why It’s Happening

Three forces are converging.

First, the clinical evidence has caught up to the marketing. kGoal cites a 2009 study that “tracked men after prostate surgery and found that those who performed guided pelvic floor exercises regained continence significantly faster, with 88 percent achieving control within 3 months compared to 56 percent in the control group.” A 2004 study by Dorey et al. of 55 men with erectile dysfunction found 40 percent regained normal function and 34.5 percent saw improvement after six months. A 2014 study by Pastore et al. reported 82.5 percent of men gained control over premature ejaculation after 12 weeks of pelvic floor rehabilitation.

Second, the addressable market is enormous and growing. UCLA Health notes that after prostate cancer surgery or radiation, incontinence “is a very common side effect.” As prostate cancer diagnoses continue and surgical volume holds steady, the pool of men actively looking for a recovery tool refreshes each year.

“This device is very user friendly and a great alternative for patients in the clinic that want to build connection to their muscles for either high tone, muscle weakness or both.”

Third, the stigma is cracking. Cleveland Clinic’s instructions describe how to isolate the muscles, telling readers to “imagine that you’re trying to close the openings to stop yourself from peeing or passing gas,” in the same plain-language register now used for any other men’s health category. When mainstream health systems normalize the anatomy, the retail category follows.

What Could Be Next

Expect the men’s pelvic floor category to move along three tracks over the next 12 to 24 months, and each has a decision point for readers.

Prescription-adjacent positioning. Devices like the kGoal Boost are already being handed to patients by clinicians as a between-visit tool. The next step is formal integration into post-prostatectomy recovery protocols, which would push app-connected trainers from “consumer wellness” into something closer to durable medical equipment. Reader action. If you or a family member has prostate surgery scheduled, ask the urologist or pelvic floor physical therapist specifically whether a biofeedback device is part of the recovery plan, and whether it can be initiated before surgery rather than only after. UCLA Health’s guidance is explicit that Kegels should not be done while a catheter is in place, so timing matters.

Price compression and competition. The $179 price point sits above disposable-habit territory but well below clinical equipment. As more entrants arrive, expect bundled subscriptions, HSA/FSA eligibility pitches and lower-cost non-app alternatives. Reader action. Before buying, decide whether you actually want the biofeedback loop. Both Cleveland Clinic and UCLA Health are clear that Kegels require no equipment. UCLA Health notes “You do not need any special equipment.” Pay for a device only if you’ve tried unguided Kegels and struggled to confirm you’re engaging the right muscles.

Broader men’s health framing. Marketing will increasingly bundle prostate recovery with erectile function, ejaculatory control and “core stability,” widening the buyer beyond post-surgery patients to younger men. The evidence base is uneven across those claims. The strongest data is on post-prostatectomy continence, with softer data on sexual performance. Reader action. Match the product claim to the study behind it. Ask a healthcare professional before starting, as Cleveland Clinic recommends, especially if you have pelvic pain or high-tone pelvic floor muscles, where standard Kegel routines can make symptoms worse.

The takeaway for anyone in recovery is straightforward. Pelvic floor training for men is transitioning from an unmentioned homework assignment into a purchasable, trackable product category. Whether you buy the hardware or not, the underlying exercise has real clinical backing, and the smartest move is to start the habit now, device optional.

THREE SIGNALS TO WATCH
1. Whether app-connected pelvic floor trainers begin appearing on standard HSA/FSA eligibility lists in the next benefits cycle.
2. Movement off the current $179 kGoal Boost price point, either through direct discounting or lower-cost competitors entering retail.
3. New peer-reviewed trials updating the 2004 Dorey, 2009 post-prostatectomy and 2014 Pastore findings with app-based biofeedback cohorts.
