PACIFIC PALISADES, LOS ANGELES () — Palisades Village officially reopened on Saturday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the repairs and renovations following damage from the devastating Palisades Fire.
The grand reopening came after more than $100 million in renovations and drew hundreds of residents who returned to shop and dine in a way they haven’t for a year and a half.
Revitalization is budding within the reconstruction of the Pacific Palisades. A bird’s-eye view of the area captures the Palisades Village right in the middle of the rebuilding community.
Saturday’s ribbon-cutting lit a new beacon of hope for residents who flocked to the shopping center’s grand reopening.
“With these shops opening, I think it’s going to kind of put the fire under people to get their building going, finish their houses and move back,” said Palisades resident William Beasley.
Founder and Executive Chairman Rick Caruso said fire safety played a crucial role in rebuilding the center. He said the team worked with environmental engineers to treat and test the wood, with the hope that the reopening would inspire neighbors to return.
“There’s going to be some sort of contagious enthusiasm for saying, ‘You know what? I may have been on the fence about rebuilding. It’s a pain in the butt to rebuild. I got a lot of challenges to rebuild, but I’m going to go do it now,’” Caruso said.
Local businesses and restaurants opened their doors to customers on Saturday after more than a year and a half of planning and construction.
“So we’re rallying all our friends and family to come out and support people that have supported us,” said Sara Singsank.
As the community looks ahead, residents encouraged others to return.
“Come back. It’s a great community,” Beasley said.
The day of celebration wrapped with an evening finale concert and tribute.
