Iconic Calabasas staple since 1998 serving its last meal Sunday

A beloved cafe in Calabasas is closing its doors after nearly three decades of business.

The Marmalade Cafe at The Commons will serve its last meal this Sunday.

The cafe has been a regular spot for people in Calabasas for California-inspired cuisine and classic American comfort food. They serve signature items like Marmalade Spicy Chilaquiles, Spicy Chorizo Benedict, Southern Fried Chicken & Waffles and Breakfast Tacos.

The original founding siblings of the Marmalade Cafe had sold the chain in 2007. Facebook/Marmalade Cafe (Calabasas, CA)

While some customers were sad that the iconic cafe is closing, others not so much — with growing excitement for what will come next at the location.

“That’s a shame. Good food and great owners. Sad to see them go,” one user wrote.

“Rent too high?” the McDonalds West Coast Instagram account chimed in.

“Their food was not the same and very bland, service was very slow. I’m excited to see what will take its place,” another user commented on a social media post about the shutdown.

The Calabasas store is one of the seven locations for the Marmalade Cafe, originally founded in 1990 by Selwyn Yosslowitz, Robert Burns Jr. and Bonnie Burns on Montana Avenue in Santa Monica.

It started as a 1,400-square-foot bakery and grab-and-go counter, targeting busy Angelenos who wanted fresh, California-inspired meals and became an instant hit.

The business expanded to high-traffic destinations like the Calabasas location inside The Commons, Westlake Village, and the Los Angeles Farmers Market.

The original founding siblings sold the chain in 2007 and later opened Bedford & Burns in Beverly Hills.
