Legendary Beverly Hills restaurant suddenly shutters after 30-year run — as celeb clients demand answers

Beverly Hills is losing one of its legendary celebrity hot spots in a few days — and fans on social media are completely heartbroken.

Crustacean, the glitzy Asian fusion restaurant famous for its top secret garlic noodle recipe and a koi fish aquarium walkway, is leaving its longtime Santa Monica Boulevard and Bedford Drive location after three decades.

Crustacean’s departure follows the sale of the building housing the swanky restaurant at 468 N. Bedford Drive, steps away from Rodeo Drive. Elizabeth An, CEO of the family-run House of An restaurant group, told Fox 11 that the building’s new landlord “has other plans” for the property, which don’t “suit Crustacean.”

“I NEED TO KNOW WHERE YOU ARE MOVING TO IMMEDIATELY!!!!!!” Chrissy Teigen pleaded in the comments of Crustacean’s Instagram announcement. The restaurant quickly reassured the model and cookbook author that another chapter was coming.

“We love you, Chrissy! Thank you for all your years of support; it means the world to us,” Crustacean replied. “We promise to let you know where we will be next!”

Real Housewife of Beverly Hills cast member Bozoma Saint John wrote: “Omg!!! I’ve celebrated so many amazing milestones here. We’re honorary family members! And we’ll definitely come by before you close!”

“Nooooooooooooo,” commented actor Lance Gross.

Crustacean had initially announced a July 27 closing date. “Thanks to your overwhelming love and support for the past few days, we’ve been able to extend our final service through July 29,” they wrote in a July 25 Instagram post.

The emotional reaction is fitting for a restaurant that has become one of Beverly Hills’ premier dining destinations. Aside from its celebrity clientele, the real star of the show has been the food — particularly chef Helene An’s famous garlic noodles and roasted Dungeness crab.

The An family was initially caught off guard by the timeline, and expected a few months to navigate the transition.

In lieu of that, operators have indicated that they will operate a Crustacean pop-up at its sister restaurants, Tiato Kitchen + Venue, in Santa Monica and AnQi Bistro in South Coast Plaza until the end of the year. “Hopefully that will give us a little transition until we find a new home,” An told Fox 11.

An is looking at potentially relocating in the future to Calabasas or Pasadena.

Crustacean also has another location in San Francisco.
