LOS ANGELES — Universities and schools across the country, including several in Southern California, have been impacted by a massive cybersecurity breach involving education software Canvas.
The system’s parent company Instructure first reported that it was affected by “a cybersecurity incident perpetrated by a criminal threat actor” over the weekend. A message posted on their website Thursday afternoon said “Canvas, Canvas Beta and Canvas Test are currently in maintenance mode. We anticipate being back up soon.”
Several schools, including UCLA, Glendale Community College, California State University, San Bernardino, and Compton College, have been impacted. Eyewitness News is working to learn more.
Canvas is used to host course websites, post assignments, and share messages between students and instructors.
This is a developing story. This article will continue to be updated as more information becomes available.
