Why Was ‘NCIS: Sydney’ Missing From the CBS Fall 2026 Lineup Amid ‘NCIS: New York’ News?

NCIS: Sydney is noticeably missing from CBS’ Fall 2026 TV lineup, with new series NCIS: New York in its place — but is Sydney gone for good?

CBS announced on Wednesday, April 15, that Tuesdays will continue to be an “all-NCIS night” beginning with the flagship series in the 8 p.m. ET time slot.

NCIS: New York — starring NCIS: Los Angeles alum LL Cool J and Scott Caan — will air at 9 p.m. ET, which is usually when NCIS: Origins comes on. Don’t fret, NCIS: Origins will return for its third season this fall, but will now be in the 10 p.m. ET time slot.

As fans of the NCIS universe know, NCIS: Sydney’s third season has been airing on Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET. However, they were not listed on the lineup.

The NCIS family just keeps growing — with eight existing or former shows as of 2025. While many fans might think the naval intelligence-based franchise began with NCIS, that’s not the case. The flagship NCIS show was actually JAG, which debuted on NBC in 1995. Thank You! You have successfully subscribed. Subscribe to newsletters Enter […]

CBS confirmed on Wednesday that the series will be back for season 4 — but not until midseason.

The series stars Olivia Swann as NCIS Special Agent Captain Michelle Mackey, Todd Lasance as AFP’s Jim “JD” Dempsey, Sean Sagar as DeShawn Jackson, Tuuli Narkle as Evie Cooper, Mavournee Hazel as Bluebird “Blue” Gleeson and William McInnes as Doc Roy ‘Rosie’ Penrose.

The network has yet to reveal what month in 2027 NCIS: Sydney will return, but it is part of the 2026-2027 midseason series schedule. The show, which is the only one in the franchise that takes place outside the U.S., isn’t the only series getting bumped to the midseason lineup.

Matlock and Ghosts will also be part of the delayed release, as will new show Einstein, starring Criminal Minds alum Matthew Gray Gubler.

“CBS broadcasts the most-watched entertainment shows in the country and continues to launch more every season,” president of CBS Entertainment Amy Reisenbach said in a press release on Wednesday. “We’ll build on that this fall by expanding the powerful NCIS franchise, introducing a new original drama from the creators of The Good Wife and ELSBETH and a new comedy from the acclaimed duo behind Ghosts. This all adds up to another schedule built for launching new hits, scaling audiences and growing content value.”

CBS confirmed that the major lineup shift means there is room for more new shows to premiere this fall including Cupertino, Eternally Yours and NCIS: New York.

The latter will follow Senior Special Agent Sam Hanna (with LL Cool J reprising his role) as he “returns to his home town” of New York City and “partners with a roguish special agent” played by Caan, according to the synopsis.

Sam is tasked with “helping lead a new team as they are tasked with high-stakes missions to defend one of the most vital cities and ports in the world,” CBS added. (Fans last saw LL Cool J as Sam on a 2025 episode of NCIS after he was featured on the third and final season of NCIS: Hawai’i in 2024. He previously played the character on NCIS: Los Angeles from 2009 to 2023.)

New York will be produced by CBS Studios, and R. Scott Gemmill, Byron Balasco, LL Cool J and Jason Barrett will all serve as executive producers. Balasco is also the showrunner.

For now, fans can keep watching new episodes of NCIS, NCIS: Sydney and NCIS: Origins on CBS Tuesdays at 8 p.m., 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. ET.
