Man suspected of kidnapping 2 UCLA students and sexually assaulting another woman released on bail

LOS ANGELES () — A Santa Monica man suspected of sexually assaulting a woman was arrested by UCLA police Friday and later released on bail.

Alexander Schecter, 26, was initially arrested on March 12 for allegedly briefly kidnapping two female UCLA students four days earlier in the 500 block of Landfair Avenue. The two students were being dropped off in the area at around 3 a.m. on March 8 when the suspect allegedly prevented them from exiting his vehicle and threatened them.

The victims stayed in his car out of fear as he drove about half a mile to the 400 block of Gayley Avenue, according to a statement released by the UCLA Police Department.

Schecter, who has no affiliation with UCLA, was arrested on charges of kidnapping and false imprisonment in that case but posted bail later that day.

As detectives continued to investigate, they found evidence that linked Schecter to a sexual assault that happened on Oct. 12, 2025 in the Palms neighborhood.

UCLA police arrested Schecter at his Santa Monica residence Friday. His bail was set at $600,000. According to jail records, Schecter was freed on bond the next day.

Detectives believe there may be additional unreported incidents involving Schecter and urge any potential victims to come forward.

Anyone who believes they may have been a victim or has information related to this case can contact the UCLA Police Department Investigations Division at 310-825-9371.
