Gypsy Rose slammed for ‘sick’ joke about murdered mom — but fans stand behind her: ‘She was raised by a POS’

It was a dead serious joke. Murderess Gypsy Rose made a joke about killing her mom on TikTok — and it didn’t land well

Murder is rarely a laughing matter. But the graveness of the crime didn’t stop Gypsy Rose Blanchard — the Missouri woman who pleaded guilty to the stabbing death of her mother — from taking a stab at trivializing the misdeed online.

“We listen and we don’t judge,” Gypsy, 34, chimed alongside content creator Natalie Reynolds in a viral vid that’s now dividing the internet. “I went to prison for eight and a half years because I [murdered] my own mom.”

While the causal quip about the killing infuriated a majority of the post’s 14.1 million social media viewers — many who’ve deemed the joke “sick” and “disturbing” — others lauded Blanchard for turning her trauma into triumph.

“Y’all don’t realize that Gypsy’s mom almost killed Gypsy, and was very abusive to her,” a supporter commented, noting the mistreatment Gypsy suffered at the hands of mom Clauddine “Dee Dee” Blanchard.

“Let’s not forget Gypsy was abused in the most horrible ways growing up,” a separate fan reminded, in part. “She was raised by a POS. Give her a chance to live and be different and to change for the better.“

“People saying it’s disturbing or weird for her to make jokes about the situation would HATE to see me coming,” tweeted an equally sympathetic defender on X. “If I saw my abusers die, I would be hosting parties weekly to celebrate!”

Some, however, may find it hard to be the life of the party when death is the occasion.

Dee Dee has been accused of having Munchausen by proxy, a psychological disorder that causes parents or caregivers to make their charges feign illness for attention.

In 2016, Gypsy was sentenced to 10 years in prison after copping to second-degree murder charges in connection to Dee Dee’s June 2015 homicide.

Gypsy admitted to convincing then-boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, now 34, to butcher her mother following years of medical and physical abuse, per reports.

“I wanted to be free of her hold on me,” said Gypsy while testifying at Godejohn’s trial. He was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison plus 25 years.

Dee Dee, who died at age 48, had Munchhausen by proxy syndrome, a psychological disorder in which parents seek sympathy and attention through the exaggerated or made-up illness of their children, according to Gypsy’s defense attorney.

Despite being perfectly healthy, Gypsy was confined to a wheelchair at the behest of her mother and forced to use a feeding tube. She was ordered to feign terminal illness and to fake having the mental capacity of a 7-year-old.

It was a years-long con devised by Dee Dee, who got her first taste of fame after her home was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina in the early 2000s. Community members rushed to help the single mother of a seemingly severely disabled child.

Taking full advantage of the spotlight, Dee Dee pocketed charitable donations from various organizations, and was gifted a free trip to Disney World as well as a home from Habitat for Humanity.

She roped doctors into her tangled web of deception by claiming that Gypsy’s medical records had been lost in the storm. When met with suspicion, Dee Dee would switch doctors and shave her daughter’s head, making her look like a cancer patient.

In addition to the medical abuse, which included an unnecessary surgery to remove her salivary glands, Gypsy testified that her mother also beat her and chained her to a bed.

After Dee Dee’s murder, Gypsy testified that she wanted to “be free” of the hold that her mother had on her. Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department
Gypsy’s boyfriend, Nicholas Paul Godejohn, claimed he was convinced to kill Dee Dee with a knife provided by Gypsy. AP

After meeting Godejohn on a Christian dating app as a teen, Gypsy urged her beau to stab Dee Dee in her Springfield, Missouri home. Gypsy hid in the bathroom while Godejohn carried out the grim deed.

The couple fled the scene and remained on the run for several days before being taken into custody.

Godejohn told police he killed Dee Dee at Gypsy’s request and with a knife she provided.

Gypsy was released from the Chillicothe Correctional Center on December 23, 2023.

And although she did do her time for the crime, the court of public opinion is, evidently, not quite prepared to let the murderous millennial off the hook.

“That wasn’t cute nor funny,” a critic crowed beneath Gypsy’s ill-received comedy clip.

“There’s absolutely nothing funny in this; this is actually so freaking wrong,” wrote a disapproving detractor.

“The lack of remorse here is wild,” added another.

“I’ve seen Gypsy do a lot of things,” a sickened naysayer scoffed, “but this right here shows she’s the one who should’ve gotten life!”
