Actor James Woods, 78, Calls Donald Trump the ‘Greatest President of My Lifetime’

Actor James Woods, 78, Calls Donald Trump the ‘Greatest President of My Lifetime’

Actor James Woods is praising Donald Trump despite the president’s less-than-stellar approval rating.

“Greatest President and greatest Cabinet, certainly in my lifetime,” Woods, 78, wrote via X on Saturday, February 28, along with a photo of President Trump, 79, and his cabinet posing for a picture in the Oval Office.

Woods post came on the same day that the president, who campaigned as a pro-peace president who promised to end wars, announced that the United States and Israel have launched ongoing military strikes on Iran.

“He said he will start a war — I’m not going to start a war I’m going to stop wars,” then-candidate Trump said while on the campaign trail in 2024. “We don’t need the wars [in] foreign lands — countries you’ve never heard of, countries that don’t even want us there. We were crazy, what we did — we had these endless wars, they go on for 21, 22 years spending billions and billions of dollars.”

Several celebrities have expressed shock over President Donald Trump’s comments about Rob Reiner in the wake of the director’s death alongside his wife, Michele Singer Reiner. Rob, 78, and Michele, 70, were found dead in their home in Los Angeles on Sunday, December 14. Us Weekly later confirmed that the couple’s 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, […]

On Saturday, Trump admitted that some American lives will likely be lost as a result of the indefinite military action.

“I do not make this statement lightly, the Iranian regime seeks to kill,” the president said. “The lives of courageous American heroes may be lost and we may have casualties. That often happens in war, but we’re doing this not for now, we’re doing this for the future and it is a noble mission.”

Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in a joint U.S. and military operation on Saturday, President Trump later announced. On Sunday, March 1, the U.S. military also confirmed that three American service members were killed, the first American casualties of the war.

Woods’ post also comes amid the president’s historically low approval ratings. According to a new Emerson College poll of 1,000 likely voters released on Wednesday, February 25, more than half — 55 percent — of Americans surveyed say they do not approve of the job the president is doing thus far in his second term.

Woods, known for his work on The Onion Field, Videodrome and Salvador, has long been an outspoken conservative and supporter of President Trump. The actor did, however, break with Trump after the president criticized the late director Rob Reiner in the wake of his violent death.

Rob Reiner and wife Michele Singer Reiner had a rocky history with President Donald Trump. Michele crossed paths with Trump before she married Rob. During her time as a photographer, she worked with Trump on the cover of his book The Art of the Deal, which was published in 1987. Two years later, Michele and […]

“Look, let me explain something to you about Rob Reiner, so that you know: First of all, I Just people by how they treat me. And Rob Reiner was a godsend in my life,” Woods told Fox News host Jesse Watters, at times growing emotional while speaking about his late friend. “We got along great. We loved each other … and he was always on my side.”

Woods continued, “ People would say to me, ‘What do you think of his politics?’ I would say, ‘I think Rob Reiner is a great patriot. Do I agree with some of — or many of — his ideas on how that patriotism should be enacted to celebrate the America that we both love? No, but he doesn’t agree with me either, but he also respects my patriotism.”

Rob and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were both found stabbed to death in their Los Angeles home on December 14, 2025. Their son, 32-year-old Nick Reiner, was arrested in connection with their deaths and charged with murder. He has pleaded not guilty and is currently being held without bail.

“Rob literally saved my career and really put me back on track in a way that was so important and rewarding in my life,” Woods continued of the director. “He really fought for me when a studio didn’t want me in a movie.”
