EAST LOS ANGELES () — A victim’s family is calling for the suspect to come forward after an East Los Angeles hit-and-run crash that killed a man riding a scooter.
Forty-year-old Danny Torrez II was on his way home when he was struck and killed in the collision about 2:30 a.m. Sunday on Whittier Boulevard, near Ferris Avenue.
The California Highway Patrol described the vehicle involved only was a gray sedan. No description of the at-large driver has been released.
“You took my son. You broke my heart. Just turn yourself in,” Torrez’s mother, Eva Dominguez, said, offering a desperate plea through tears.
Dominguez described her son as a fun-loving, family-focused man who worked as a security guard and was known for always smiling. She said the driver’s actions have left the family devastated.
“My son was a human being,” Dominguez told 7. “They left him like as if he was an animal. I just want justice for my son. That’s all I want.”
A GoFundMe page has been created to help the family with funeral expenses.
As investigators continue their attempts to identify the driver, Torrez’s family is urging anyone with information about the fatal collision to come forward.
“What if that would’ve happened to one of your family members and nobody stopped? If nobody stopped to help them, how would you feel?” Dominguez said.
Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact the CHP.
