INGLEWOOD, Calif. () — SoFi Stadium and the city of Inglewood, which hosted the Super Bowl in 2022, are preparing to do so again in 2027.
Since the last time the big game was played at the stadium, in 2022, major construction projects have been completed — and more are on the way.
In an interview with 7, Mayor James Butts said the Super Bowl brought a financial boost to the city, and he expects the same impact next year.
“It also translates into sales at our local businesses, and those local businesses generate what, sales tax,” Butts said. “So, it’s a big circle and it’s really changed the whole environment here in Inglewood.”
The last time the Super Bowl was here in Inglewood, the Intuit Dome had barely broke ground. Now, it’s home to the Clippers – and just one more example of how this city has transformed into a year-round sports and entertainment hub.
“We welcome the development,” said Jose Hernandez, an Inglewood resident. “It’s actually helping everybody’s property value go up. So that’s a good thing.”
“I think it’s awesome because it provides a lot of resources for the people who live here,” said Omar Adams, another Inglewood resident. “It’s great to have this stuff here instead of driving to Woodland Hills.”
By the time the Super Bowl returns to Inglewood, this site will be the newly opened Kali Hotel, adding 300 new guest rooms, with a rooftop bar, restaurant and pool on the 12th floor.
The Seattle Seahawks celebrated their Super Bowl victory with a visit to Disneyland, and for one of them, it was a homecoming.
“This has had an impact on the prosperity of Inglewood residents and our ability to provide public safety, infrastructure renewal, roads and trees and so on and so forth,” said Butts. “So, this had been so important to the city.”
While the Super Bowl brings economic growth, Inglewood residents say they’re also ready for the party that comes with it.
“I am excited about the party aspect of Super Bowl and the performance because I don’t quite understand football,” said Janette Clark, an Inglewood resident who lives in Hollywood Park where SoFi Stadium sits. “But it is exciting like hearing the roaring from my apartment and stuff like that. I know it’s going to be live over here.”
