Jane the Virgin alum Brett Dier is engaged to Conor Leslie.
“I GET TO MARRY MY BESTFRIEND IN THE UNIVERSE!!!!” Dier, 35, captioned an Instagram post on Thursday, January 29. He posted a photo of Leslie, 34, holding her hand in front of her face, showing off the engagement ring.
In a second image, Leslie kissed Dier on the cheek with her left hand resting on his chest. “I’m pretty darn lucky,” she commented on the post.
Leslie shared the same two images on her own Instagram.
“Gonna marry my best friend,” she captioned the snaps. Dier commented, “I can’t wait,” with several red heart emojis.
Leslie made her first appearance on Dier’s Instagram in November 2024. News of their engagement comes more than one month after it was announced that Dier and Leslie would both be starring in the upcoming romantic comedy In Spite of Ourselves.
“To say this movie meant a lot to the two of us would be the greatest and most obvious understatement,” Leslie captioned an Instagram post last month alongside the announcement.
Dier was previously engaged to White Lotus star Haley Lu Richardson. They were together for seven years before Richardson, 30, asked Dier to marry her in 2019.
“Neither of us are, like, crazy romantic people, so nothing was planned,” Richardson recalled during a March 2019 appearance on Busy Tonight, explaining that she and Dier were “eating a pizza” when she asked if he wanted to marry her.
“But yeah, we’re engaged now,” she added.
Richardson further discussed the engagement during an interview with Cosmopolitan that same year.
“I was totally in the moment and this gut feeling came up and coerced me to ask him to marry me and I did. And he said yes,” she said. “I feel like the trick to that was just not thinking about it at all before it happened. I just kind of did it.”
Dier and Richardson quietly separated the following year. However, she didn’t reveal their breakup until 2022.
“Hey guys. This is me and Brett. We actually separated two years ago. But life goes on and we are both existing and doing pretty well turns out,” Richardson captioned a July 2022 Instagram Story, posting a selfie of her and Dier. “We shared a deeply special chunk of our lives together.”
Richardson continued, “I’m so glad to have had the last couple years to heal and grow without the internet knowing but we kinda just wanted to share it and move on now. Love yourselves! Life is life babies!”
Dier shared a similar post on his own Instagram that same day.
“We separated 2 years ago but we saw each other today for the first time,” Dier wrote at the time. “We are happy and so thankful for the time we had together. (For those people who have been dying to know what happened to us). Haley’s post is better worded so go read that one! Have a great day!”
