Suspect crashes, dies off 10 Freeway in Ontario after police chase

ONTARIO, Calif. () — A suspect who was being chased by police died after crashing off the westbound 10 Freeway in the Ontario area early Tuesday morning.

The pursuit started just before 2 a.m. when officers tried to pull over a car at Vineyard Avenue and Rosewood Court, according to the Ontario Police Department. It’s unclear what prompted the attempted stop.

During the ensuing chase, the suspect drove onto the westbound 10 Freeway and got off on the Euclid Avenue off-ramp. The driver lost control and crashed into some bushes off the freeway and died at the scene.

One of the pursuing officers also lost control exiting the freeway, but did not crash with the suspect, police said. That officer was not injured.

The off-ramp was shut down as a result, causing some traffic delays in the area.
