Fontana police shoot, kill suspected narcotics trafficker after he rams multiple vehicles, authorities say

FONTANA, Calif. () — A suspected narcotics trafficker died after being shot by Fontana police Wednesday afternoon in an incident in which he allegedly rammed multiple vehicles with his own, authorities said.

The confrontation occurred shortly after 1:30 p.m. in a parking lot in the 17100 block of West Foothill Boulevard, between Palmdale and Sierra avenues, according to the Fontana Police Department. Officers attempted to a detain a man wanted in connection with the sale and trafficking of “a large quantity of narcotics,” primarily fentanyl, the department said in a statement.

“During the attempted arrest, the suspect used his vehicle to ram multiple police vehicles and a civilian bystander vehicle,” the news release said. “An officer-involved shooting subsequently occurred.”

Officers rendered medical aid to the wounded man until paramedics arrived and transported him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said. His identity was not immediately released.

No officers were injured.

The incident is being investigated by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department and the Department of Justice, and the Police Department will conduct an internal administrative review, the news release said.
