Disney recently hiked ticket prices for its theme parks, prompting frugal families to wonder whether the experience is worthwhile.
For those looking to forgo the hefty entrance fees, fun can still be had in the surroundings of both Disney World in Orlando, Florida, per Travel + Leisure.
Many of the restaurants at the Disney resorts can be frequented by those who haven’t bought a park pass, with diners getting the chance to meet and greet some of their favorite costumed characters for free.
Chef Mickey’s will have characters all day long, while restaurants such as Cape May Cafe and ‘Ohana have character dining just for breakfast, according to the magazine.
Meanwhile, the outdoor shopping and dining district, Disney Springs, is also accessible to the public and features entertainment every night of the week.
Fan favourite characters can be seen singing and dancing, while comedy shows also take place regularly.
There, you can listen to live music at the Raglan Road Irish Pub and Restaurant or the House of Blues Orlando, as well as check out special shows, such as Cirque du Soleil’s Drawn to Life. Bowling is also a fun activity at Splitsville Luxury Lanes.
Disney’s Boardwalk at EPCOT’s resort area is another place to show your family street performers for free.
If you’re more in the mood for an Animal Kingdom vibe, Travel + Leisure reccomends a walk around Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge for free to take in the sight of zebras, giraffes and ostriches.
Plus, when dining at Sanaa in the Kidani Village area, there’ll be a chance to catch a glimpse at the resort’s 30 species of wildlife.
There’s also a little hack to enter the Animal Kingdom theme park after-hours without paying admission. On the Starlight Safari, you’ll embark on an immersive safari adventure reminiscent of a nighttime drive through an African game reserve. Guests will be able to spot animals with night-vision goggles provided to them.
Of course, one of the most magical parts of Disney World is the nightly fireworks display, and luckily, you can catch them without physically being inside a park.
Hotels on the monorail line — such as Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Polynesian Village Resort, and Grand Floridian Resort & Spa — all offer views of the fireworks, as does the beach at the Polynesian Village Resort.
The beach at the Polynesian Village Resort is also the best spot to watch the Electrical Water Pageant, and that can only be viewed from outside the park.
