Taylor Momsen brought back an iconic costume this holiday season.
Momsen, 32, proved that she still fits into her iconic Cindy Lou Who costume, which she wore while filming How the Grinch Stole Christmas back in 2000. She took to Instagram on Monday, December 22, to document the moment she tried the number on.
With the help of an assistant, Momsen squeezed into the dress, which she wore over a tulle skirt for extra volume. She carefully pulled on the sleeves before shimmying into the design.
“I’m a little jacked,” she joked while struggling to fit her arms inside of the puffy sleeves.
Her assistant then asked if Momsen would be “OK” with a seamstress opening “the seam on the sleeve and then restoring it” so that she could wear it more easily. “Possibly,” Momsen replied.
She then pulled the dress down a bit so wear it unbuttoned and off-the-shoulder. “Can [I] wear it like that?” she said.
Momsen then got glammed up and slipped the gingham number back on, which was complete with a round collar and plates attached to her skirt.
While posing in the number, the former Gossip Girl star wore a red cape adorned with a fuzzy white collar and black combat boots.
“Yes…that is my real Cindy costume from the Grinch movie 🥰,” Momsen captioned the post. “25 years later…it still (kind of) fits 🤣 what a surreal holiday season #whereareyouchristmas.” Her fans praised her in the comments section.
“I love that you’re fully embracing this!’ one gushed, while another added, “Oh my gosh I love this 🎄🖤🎄.” A third commented, “This is incredible, what a surreal full circle moment for you.”
This isn’t the first time Momsen has channeled the Grinch this year. Last month, she released a new version of Cindy Lou Who’s song “Where Are You Christmas?” with her band, The Pretty Reckless. Back in 2020, Momsen opened up about filming the movie alongside Jim Carey while chatting with Today.
“I think that people love The Grinch just simply because the core of the story is so sweet and it’s so heartwarming and it has such a good message,” she told the publication. “That no matter what age touches your heart, I think that that’s an amazing thing to be a part of. ”
Momsen continued, “The fact that it comes back around every year — I think it’s something to look forward to. And I think it just kinda brings happiness and joy to anyone who watches it.”
When it came to filming with Carey, 63, Momsen gushed that the actor was “so kind.”
“I just remember him being so kind, so concerned, but so methodical with what he was doing,” she reminisced. “Even at that young of an age, I remember watching him and going, ‘I’m watching an artist right now at work.’”
Momsen also shared that her first time wearing a wig, fake lashes and faux teeth was filming the movie, but she was “too young” to wear the prosthetics that the other characters in Whoville donned.
Carey, however, told Variety earlier this month that he went through torture training to endure the struggle of weraing the Grinch costume, which took eight hours to get into.
“The suit was made of unnervingly itchy yak hair that drove me insane all day long. I had ten-inch-long fingers, so I couldn’t scratch myself or touch my face or do anything,” he explained. “I had teeth that I had to find a way to speak around, and I had full contact lenses that covered the entire eyeball, and I could only see a tiny tunnel in front of me.”
Carey added: “Richard Marcinko was a gentleman that trained CIA officers and special-ops people how to endure torture. He gave me a litany of things that I could do when I began to spiral. Like punch myself in the leg as hard as I can. Have a friend that I trust and punch him in the arm. Eat everything in sight. Changing patterns in the room. If there’s a TV on when you start to spiral, turn it off and turn the radio on. Smoke cigarettes as much as possible. There are pictures of me as the Grinch sitting in a director’s chair with a long cigarette holder. I had to have the holder, because the yak hair would catch on fire if it got too close.”
