Digital Tails Group (DTG), a subsidiary of Bowmo, Inc., together with The Cabinet Shop, a UK-based cabinetry manufacturer (https://thecabinetshop.co.uk), has released a new case study detailing the development of a 3D online visualisation and product customisation platform that is reshaping how customers design made-to-measure furniture.
DTG created a 3D product configurator with dynamic pricing logic that integrates directly with The Cabinet Shop’s Shopify store. The project began with cupboards, the company’s best-selling line, and has been engineered to expand across the entire catalogue, with future upgrades anticipated, including AI-assisted configuration.
The initiative was designed to resolve several operational challenges while laying the groundwork for long-term digital scalability.
Where customers previously relied on manual order forms and lengthy email discussions, they can now configure cabinetry on the website—fine-tuning measurements, finishes and layouts while viewing instant visual updates and cost estimates.
Traditionally, the design team generated a new technical drawing for most customer requests, a time-intensive process. By automating common design patterns, the configurator reduces manual drafting, allowing designers to dedicate more time to complex and high-value bespoke commissions, significantly accelerating sales timelines.
With each design generated, the system automatically produces accurate manufacturing specifications. This minimises the risk of misinterpretation, costly rework and production delays, while the validation engine prevents incompatible choices.
The Cabinet Shop intends to broaden the platform’s scope to include additional product ranges, such as media centres, wardrobes and bookcases. DTG’s modular configuration architecture ensures new items can be added quickly without rebuilding core components.
Instead of sending all customers into a single design workflow, the platform creates multiple tailored product pages aimed at different search needs, enhancing organic visibility and attracting customers with clear purchase intent.
“With the configurator, customers can design their own cabinets in real time. This takes pressure off our designers, reduces back-and-forth communication, and speeds up the process.”
— Lewis Nichols, Founder of The Cabinet Shop
