Katy Perry and John Mayer recently had an unexpected run-in in Los Angeles.
Perry, 40, and Mayer, 47, were spotted at Sabrina Carpenter’s Short n’ Sweet Tour show at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles on Sunday, November 17.
According to a video shared by DeuxMoi, the exes were sitting in the VIP section together. Perry was sitting in the row in front of Mayer. In the clip, the pair chatted as they hung out in the audience. Perry turned her head around to speak with Mayer.
Perry and Mayer arrived at the venue separately. The “Firework” singer attended the show with her daughter, Daisy, 4, whom she shares with longtime partner Orlando Bloom. Mayer and Bloom were not the only famous faces in the audience as Cara Delevingne, Madelaine Petsch, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Marcello Hernandez and Taylor Zakhar Perez were all spotted at the show.
Mayer and Perry’s run-in comes nearly a decade after their breakup. In 2012, the twosome began their on-and-off romance before calling it quits for good in 2015. Throughout their relationship, Perry and Mayer collaborated musically.
In 2013, they released their duet “Who You Love” which was on Mayer’s Paradise Valley album. Perry and Mayer filmed a music video for the track which featured a lot of PDA.
“It’s just so authentic,” Mayer said in a joint interview with ABC News at the time about their collaboration. “There’s nothing scripted in that video except putting a bull in the middle of the desert.”
Perry added, “Relationships are kind of like riding a bull. You hang on for dear life and sometimes you get a little buck here and there but you get back on.”
Mayer also played guitar on Perry’s song “It Takes Two” which dropped that same year.
Following their split, Perry began her romance with Bloom, 47. The couple, who also had an on-and-off relationship, got engaged in 2019. The following year, they welcomed daughter Daisy. Bloom and Perry have yet to walk down the aisle.
While Perry moved on shortly after the split, Mayer seemingly channeled the heartbreak into his music. In 2017, the guitar player released his song “Still Feel Like Your Man,” which he previously admitted was about Perry.
“Who else would I be thinking about?” he said in an interview with The New York Times at the time. “And by the way, it’s a testament to the fact that I have not dated a lot of people in the last five, six years. That was my only relationship. So it’s like, give me this, people.”
A few years later, Perry poked fun at her former flame when a contestant auditioned for American Idol with one of Mayer’s songs.
“I’m triggered! I feel like maybe you should Wikipedia me!” the former judge joked during the April 2022 episode. “It’s a great song. You did great, but I can’t talk anymore. Who is going to pay for my extra hour of therapy?”
