Lori Loughlin is playing a cop in her latest project years after she served time for her involvement in the college admissions scandal.
Prime Video announced on Wednesday, October 30, that Loughlin, 60, is playing Lieutenant Bishop in the upcoming half-hour drama series On Call. The first look photos showed Loughlin in character alongside scene partners Rich Ting, who plays Sergeant Koyama, and Eriq La Salle in the role of Sergeant Lasman.
On Call, which premieres January 9, 2025, stars Troian Bellisario and Brandon Larracuente in Wolf Entertainment’s first scripted streaming series.
“On Call is an adrenalized and visceral police drama that follows a rookie and veteran officer duo as they go on patrol in Long Beach, California,” reads the synopsis. “Incorporating a mixture of bodycam, dash-camera, and cellphone footage to create a cinema verité effect, the innovative series explores the morality of protecting and serving a community.”
Bellisario, 39, is set to play a “hard-charging but protective” veteran officer who “struggles to find her place in the department” while training the next generation of officers. Larracuente, 29, meanwhile, is an “ambitious rookie who grapples with holding onto his optimistic outlook as he realizes the challenges he’ll face in today’s climate.”
Loughlin’s On Call role comes five years after she and her husband, Mossimo Giannulli, were accused of paying $500,000 in bribes to get their daughters, Bella, 26, and Olivia Jade, 25, into USC. The couple were indicted in March 2019, and they pleaded guilty to fraud charges two months later.
In April 2020, photos were released of Loughlin and Giannulli’s daughters on a rowing machine, as a part of the scam to get them into college. Loughlin was sentenced to two months behind bars and was released in December 2020. Giannulli, 61, was released in April 2021 after serving a five-month sentence.
Following her prison stint, a source exclusively told Us Weekly that Loughlin was looking to “put the past” behind her. “She has served her time in jail and completed her probation, community service and paid all of her court fines,” the insider told Us in October 2021.
According to the source, Loughlin “privately arranged to put two students through four years of college” and paid their tuition and the expenses, which totaled more than $500,000. She also continued her work with Project Angel Food after completing her 100 required hours of community service.
Before On Call, Loughlin made acting return with roles on When Hope Calls, Fall Into Winter, Blessings of Christmas and Curb Your Enthusiasm.
“Every day, we’re met with different obstacles. But, for me, it’s like that song says, ‘I get knocked down, but I get up again,’” Loughlin told First for Women Magazine in April. “Nobody said life was going to be a breeze; we all make mistakes, but the important thing is to persevere.”
All episodes of On Call will premiere on Prime Video January 9, 2025.
